Select PHP Version can provide an alternative runtime and extension controls. The provider determines which versions are installed and enabled. This interface cannot add arbitrary server packages.
Use the selector
- Search cPanel for Select PHP Version and note the current choice.
- Confirm the domain actually uses Selector. An explicit EasyApache choice or another handler may bypass it.
- Choose a maintained version supported by your application and make it current.
- Review the required extensions for that version. Enable only those needed and save where prompted.
- Confirm the version and extension list in the application’s diagnostics. Test its important workflows.
Native and alternative PHP
Native refers to the host’s system runtime. Extension configuration may then belong to EasyApache or the server administrator. Alternative versions use CloudLinux’s model. An extension available for one version is not automatically available for another.
If settings appear ineffective, ask support to check MultiPHP and handler integration. Inherit is recommended in cPanel’s standard integration, but your host’s configuration is decisive. Do not edit server-level handler files yourself.
Back up files and database before upgrading. If an older runtime receives extended vendor maintenance, confirm the terms with support; still plan application updates instead of relying indefinitely on an obsolete language branch.
