Images are only one part of page speed. A slow first response, expensive scripts or repeated database work can dominate even a visually simple page.
Work from evidence
- Measure a representative phone and desktop journey. Separate first-response delay, main-content appearance and interaction responsiveness.
- Check resource faults and application logs. Inspect slow database queries and unnecessary calls to external services.
- Reduce unused scripts, load nonessential features later and avoid downloading full datasets for a few visible cards.
- Cache reusable application content and give static assets versioned URLs with sensible browser lifetimes.
- Confirm server-supported text compression and an appropriate maintained PHP runtime. Ask the host about OPcache and the active web handler.
- Re-test the same pages and workflows after each meaningful change.
Cache safely
Never serve one person’s account page, enquiry data or CSRF token from an indiscriminate shared cache. Exclude admin, payment, session and personalised endpoints. A CDN needs correct cache rules, not just an enabled switch.
Optimize Website concerns supported server compression; it does not automatically repair inefficient application code. Site Quality Monitoring can help identify issues where enabled, but may involve plan or service conditions. Record actual results instead of assuming a particular PHP version or plugin guarantees a percentage improvement.
