DNS changes can affect website access, email and verification services. First confirm that the domain uses the DNS service whose zone you are editing. A correct-looking cPanel record has no public effect when another provider is authoritative.

Make one targeted change

  1. Obtain the required record from the service you are connecting and verify the destination with its owner.
  2. Open Zone Editor, choose the domain and inspect existing records.
  3. Save a private record of the old name, type, value and TTL.
  4. Add or edit only the intended record. Check whether the interface automatically appends the domain name.
  5. Save, then verify authoritative and public answers. Cached responses can remain until their TTL expires.

Choose the right type

A and AAAA direct names to IP addresses. CNAME points a name to another hostname. MX directs mail and uses a priority. TXT carries verification or policy text. Do not use an IP address where a service requires a hostname.

Avoid resetting an entire zone to solve one record. That can remove working email and third-party verifications. Check existing IPv6 records too when only some visitors reach the wrong server. For a migration, prepare a rollback and coordinate website, mail and certificate requirements together.
